Pearl’s Policy Solutions

Pearl refuses to be silenced and will ensure that our community is never silenced either. For years, Pearl has stood up to the good ol’ boys’ club in Baton Rouge, speaking up for people at risk of becoming pregnant and for poor, Black and LGBTQ+ Louisianans. By electing Pearl, District 23 will gain a champion who will stand strong against efforts to censor, disenfranchise and disinvest, will make space for other excluded voices and will be a walking, talking reminder every day they enter the Capitol that we’re not going anywhere.

Freedom to thrive

Pearl will call out bans on trans healthcare, abortion access and books on Black history for what they are: targeted efforts to keep us down. Pearl will fight for our freedom to thrive by pushing for:

  • A rollback of Louisiana’s abortion ban

  • LGBTQ+ non-discrimination policies

  • Overhauling juvenile criminal justice

  • Reducing over-policing and over-surveillance of communities of color

  • Protecting the right to medical privacy

  • Paid Family and Medical Leave

A place to call home

Pearl will stand firmly for the right of Louisianans to have the policies needed to have a future here—for us and for our children. Pearl will protect the places we call home by working towards:

  • A ban on carbon capture and other practices that deepen Louisiana’s dependency on the petrochemical industry

  • Climate change reparations fund to support infrastructure investments funded by petrochemical industry

  • Investments in infrastructure to keep New Orleans livable in the face of worsening storms and rising heat

  • Assistance program to fortify homes and reduce insurance costs

  • Incentives for small scale landlords to provide affordable and ADA-compliant housing

Opportunity to be safe

Pearl will fight to reduce poverty like our lives depend on it—because they do. Pearl will ensure every Louisianan has the opportunity to be safe by working to pass:

  • A $25 minimum wage

  • A worker’s bill of rights mandating safe conditions and unionization rights

  • Additional SNAP benefits with grocers and fully funded school lunch

  • Investments in job training for young people and people returning from incarceration

  • Mandatory pay transparency to ensure equity at medium-to-large employers
